Abstract

|
This study aimed to understand the deeper meaning of suicides of elderly men as seen through the survivors. For this, in-depth interviews with six spouses of elderly men suicides were conducted. It was analyzed by the methods of Van Manen¡¯s(2000) hermeneutic phenomenology.
The analysis of the words expressed led to the following five fundamental themes. These are ¡°letting the unbearable pain go, lessening the burdens of the spouses, letting the wrath towards the disappointed child go, letting the worthless self in the world go, and ignored the last signals.¡± Based on experience and in-depth interviews, I suggest practical implications for suicide prevention for the elderly men via health and social welfare.
